Glen Canyon Recreational Area and Capitol Reef National Park

This is our seventh post from Utah.  We're finding that most of the time we are in areas with no internet or phone service.  That makes it challenging to receive news from home or get our blogs posted.
Yesterday (10/1) we traveled the Scenic Byway along Hwy 95 through Glen Canyon Recreational Area and along the Colorado River.  The views from the Hite Overlook were definitely worth the stop.
See our truck camper on the rim overlooking the Colorado River?
In Capitol Reef National Park we hiked to the Hickman Natural Bridge.  It was 2 miles roundtrip climbing up and down hills and switchbacks.

We got the last available campsite in the park and took the afternoon off relaxing in the campground where several deer came wandering through the campsites.  In the evening we went to the campgrounds's amphitheater for a ranger-led program on slot canyons.  Having explored our first slot canyon on this trip, we found the program interesting.  One of the main features of a slot canyon is that in most of it, you can touch both walls of the canyon at the same time. Slot canyons are formed by the wear of water rushing through rock and can be dangerous due to the threat of flash floods when it rains.  Here's a few more pictures from our visit to Little Wild Horse Slot Canyon last week:

It rained all night and was snowing this morning (10/2) so we decided to drive to Torrey and find a campground with electricity, showers and laundry facilities.  This is our first campground in 11 days where we have had the luxury of electricity!  After doing our laundry, we hunkered down for the day catching up on the blog and published three posts.  The campground (Thousand Lakes RV Park) offers nightly BBQ dinners in the pavilion so we treated ourselves to BBQ ribs and chicken.  The couple in the campsite next to us invited us to sit at their table and we enjoyed good conversation and good food.  If the weather permits, we plan to drive back to Capitol Reef National Park tomorrow.
