On Sunday (9/23) we stopped at the Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site. Started in the 1870's, the Hubbell Trading Post is the oldest continuously operating trading post in the American Southwest. Hubbell was a merchant and friend to the Navajo people and a liaison between them and the outside world. We toured the trading post and the Hubbell home.

We spent the rest of the day at the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest National Park. We drove through the park stopping at all the overlooks and walking on the short trails. The desert colors were quite beautiful.

Agate House ruins -- built of petrified rock |
We drove lots of miles today. After leaving the Petrified Forest we found a section of Historic Route 66 in Holbrook. We stopped at the famous Wigwam Motel which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
We spent the night In the Winslow Walmart parking lot.
I have started getting some significant nosebleeds. We are thinking it might be from the very dry air here in the southwest.
You and Jonny (nosebleeds). Hope they get better soon. Put lots of Vaseline in your nose all the time. :)
