Sunday

Today was a cool & cloudy fall day with a touch of color showing up here and there among the trees. We've shared the road with an occasional Amish buggy the last few days.

Our worship service this morning was from a previously recorded CD on April 28th at Calvin Church. I love how Pastor John had everyone lift their hands to God in thanksgiving during the opening. We need to do that more often! Rejoice in the Lord and what He has done for us! Saved by grace through faith . . . Worship is the response of a grateful heart. Amen! :)

We found the St Lawrence Seaway's Eisenhower Lock today, hoping to see a ship pass through, but unfortunately our timing was off and we didn't want to wait 3-4 hours for the next one. It would have been fun to drive through the tunnel under the lock as a ship passed overhead.

This is the tunnel that goes under the Lock. We wanted to get a picture of a ship passing overhead, but no ships went through while we were there:(
We stopped at the nearby Hawkins Point Visitors Center . . . free, educational, and fun! They have lots of cool interactive "hands on" exhibits to learn about energy and electricity and a view of the Moses-Saunders Power Dam which stretches across the U.S. - Canadian border. Built through an international partnership (St Lawrence-FDR Power Project), half of the dam belongs to the U.S. and half to Canada.
If you look carefully, you can see 2 tiny dots just above the center of the dam. The American flag and the Canadian flag at the border dividing the dam.

From there we drove about 90 miles to the North Star Underground Railroad Museum and the Ausable Chasm. The museum was small, but very well done and worth the visit.

Ausable Chasm is a "natural attraction" located in the Champlain Valley where the Ausable River cuts a deep scenic chasm through the rock. Hiking trails, walkways , bridges and stairs allow access to the chasm and some quite spectacular views of the river, rock walls and formations. The entry fee was very pricey ($17 per person), so if you go, you should really make a day of it to get your money's worth. We arrived an hour and a half before closing and I balked at the price, but Mark said we drove there specifically to see it so we did. I'm glad we went, but we were rushed and did not have time to complete all the trails. They also have opportunities for rafting, tubing, and an "adventure trail" cable course . . . All for an additional cost.

We spent the night at the Ausable Chasm Campground. Although we love Walmart, after 4 nights in their parking lots, we were in need of a dump station and nice hot shower:)
