A Gray, Overcast and Humid Day

Today (September 19th) was a gray, overcast day, raining off and on and very humid.  We stopped at the bridge in Wiscasset to take some pictures of the Sheepscot River at low tide.  Then we made another quick stop at the Fort Edgecomb State Historic Site.

Since it was raining we decided to visit the Boothbay Railroad Village with it's railroad memorabilia, antique cars, model railroad, and historic buildings.  After a train ride around the grounds, we spent about an hour checking out the exhibits.  My favorite was the model railroad.  Volunteers have spent the last 13 years assembling this model which is still a work in progress and portrays railroading in Maine in the 1950's and 60's.  I enjoyed seeing the tiny little people and the attention to detail in the scenes that were depicted.

Since it was still raining we decided to check in at Shore Hills Campground and relax the rest of the afternoon.  Campsites with electric hook-ups were $45 so we chose to pay $30 for a tent site without hook-ups.  The campground overlooks the Cross River so we took some pictures of the water when we arrived.  A few hours later we were surprised to see the water had disappeared leaving mud flats.  When we weren't paying attention the tide had gone out!
