Three Beacons of Light

Sunshine and 82 degrees!  We visited three lighthouses today (September 21st):  Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, and the lighthouse at Owl's Head.
On our way to the first lighthouse we stopped at Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site ~ Fort William Henry (1692-1696).

At Pemaquid Point Lighthouse (1827), we were able to climb up into the lighthouse for views from the top.  In the parking lot we met another couple from Grand Rapids:)

The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse (1906) is built at the end of the Rockland breakwater which extends almost a mile long from Jameson Point into Rockland Harbor.  Out near the lighthouse, water was flowing a few inches deep over the breakwater.  High tide?  Not sure.  Most people turned back at that point, but after walking nearly a mile we decided it was worth getting our feet wet:)  On the way back, Mark wanted me to get a picture of us sloshing through the water with our shoes on, but my camera malfunctioned and wouldn't work.  I kept getting an error message which has never happened before.   I got it working again later and I'm hoping this is not the beginning of continual camera problems.

Looking back from the Lighthouse you can see the water flowing over the breakwater.

Light Station Owl's Head (1852) is a small lighthouse perched atop a steep rise overlooking Rockland Harbor.

As we travel along the coast of Maine, it's interesting to see the lobster fisherman heading out to check their traps.  I love seeing the boats and the colorful buoys scattered over the water that mark the placement of the traps.

Our thoughts and prayers are in Grand Rapids today.  Jason Alexander, a dear friend of our son and daughter-in-law, was killed this morning in a head on crash.  Please pray for his wife, Brandi, and their four children.
